Gently exfoliate your lips with warm wet towel or lip scrub 3 times per day for 3 days leading up to your Lip Blush appointment. Gentle is KEY - Do Not scrub to the point of compromised skin. After scrubbing, keep lips hydrated and soft with moisturizer or lip balm throughout the entire day. Following these steps will remove hard skin and prepare the lips for proper pigmentation. If you get cold sores, you will definitely need an antiviral treatment. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about available options. Aciclovir is an antiviral that is available in New Zealand and has been prescribed to some of my clients in the past. Physicians usually instruct to begin using it 3 days before procedure and for 2 days after. Completing a 5 day course of one tablet a day. A number of factors can TRIGGER (not cause) the virus, permanent makeup is one of them. Please consider this step even if you have never had a cold sore before - 90% of the population have the virus that they are not aware of as it lays dormant in the system until it is triggered.

If you have had any type of lip surgery, consult with the physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent makeup procedure on the lips. Most physicians give a 3 week approval after lip filler injections. If the lip surgery involves an incision (like a lip implant), the incision needs to be healed for about 6 months before tattooing on top of it.
